A successful track-record: Björn Casapietra’s career path

A career which transcends the boundaries of the conventional genres of classical and popular music, television and theatre, entertainment and presenting: in many respects Björn Casapietra’s career defies categorization, and this directly reflects the cultural polarity of his origins.

He’s the son of the legendary East-German conductor Herbert Kegel and the not less famous Genoese soprano Primadonna Celestina Casapietra. What would become of a youngster growing up in such a talented family environment? He was blessed with a talent for acting and a good operatic tenor voice. As is well known, the latter is a rare species, and so from 1993 Casapietra began training with the Milanese singing teacher Ruggiero Orofino.
When in 1999 he took on the main role as Raoul in the highly successful Hamburg musical “Phantom of the Opera” he had already been a star for some time. His TV appearances to date range from funny commercials, soaps, cheerful pre-primetime series, as successful TV attorney Georg Ritter, to large-scale TV films. He also appeared on shows such as the José Carreras Gala and became the host and singer at the popular ZDF evergreen “Sonntagskonzert”. In addition he’s been a goodwill ambassador for the children’s hospice “Stiftung Bärenherz” in Wiesbaden and Leipzig for many years.

In 2000 Björn Casapietra released his first solo album and this was so successful that it set the further course for his career. Music delighted him more than ever – not least as a result of the new focus to his artistic profile and his newly-found self-confidence.
His second CD entitled “Silent Passion”was released in 2002. The songs, including a duet with Mama Celestina, were anything but “silent”. They reveal a tenor at the top of his form, and evidence of new vocal potential which Casapietra will be able to develop even more over the next few years.
In 2003 he took on his first major film role. A family adventure film entitled “Der Dolch des Batu Khan” appeared at the cinema in 2004.
In 2006 another album was released, “Meines Herzens Wahrheit” is the result of several years work, meticulous repertoire research and exquisite musical fine-tuning. It is also the result of further in-depth vocal studies, for a great singer has never finished learning. A great voice always remains a “work in progress”, and must not only be nurtured but also further developed.

Björn Casapietra’s album “Verführung” recorded in 2008 is a career snap shot, but it’s especially the summation of new artistic and spiritual impulses. His presentation has a competent voice quality and is expressive in a wide variety from traditional Spanish Zarazuela to Irish folksongs and haunting ballads. He’s accompanied by his favourite soprano partner Olivia Safe, the classical pianists Sibylle Briner, Marita Mirsalimova and guitarist Uwe Hassbecker. The guitarist is a member of the rock band “Silly” and Björn Casapietra’s half brother. He provides an unmistakably improved complexion to the compositions.
The “Galanacht der deutschen Startenöre”, a tour in 2008 with German top-class tenors such as Erkan Aki and Volker Bengl, made a new positive experience for Björn Casapietra, who became a favourite at sold out concerts. Also in 2009, new developments and surprises – Björn’s fifth studio album, the extension of his successful concert tour “Verführung”, the continuation of the project “Die deutschen Startenöre” and certainly TV appearances at ARD, ZDF, MDR...

The happiness in his life is made complete by his little daughter Stella-Cheyenne, born in January 2009. Björn is living in a suburb of Berlin with his partner and their daughter.
